The short version
- You give us your account details and the materials for your talks. We use them to build and run your presentations.
- Your talk content goes to an AI provider (Anthropic) to write the slides. It is not used to train their models.
- When you present by voice, your browser turns speech into text. In Chrome that means your audio goes to Google. Cue never receives or stores audio, only the text.
- We keep transcripts of live talks with each slide decision so you can review them. You can delete them by deleting the talk.
- We have no advertising, no analytics trackers, and we do not sell personal information.
Who we are
In this policy, "Cue", "we" and "us" mean the company that provides Cue. For anything in this policy, contact us.
Cue is a business product. This policy covers the website, the Cue app and the audience screen. We play two roles, and the difference matters:
- We decide how account and website data is used. For your sign-in details and the technical data in our logs, we are the controller.
- Your organization decides about its content. For what your organization puts into Cue (decks, documents, talks, transcripts), it is the controller and we act as its processor under our Data Processing Addendum. If your organization uses Cue and you have a question about that content, ask your organization first.
What we collect
| What | Details | Where it comes from |
|---|---|---|
| Account | Your name, email address and a securely hashed password. Which organizations you belong to and your role in each. | You |
| Brand materials | Organization names, logos, image libraries, past decks you upload, and the brand profile extracted from them (colors, type, layouts, voice). | You and your team |
| Talk materials | Topics, audience and length, notes, documents you attach, and the slides and scripts Cue generates from them. | You, and our AI provider |
| Live session records | The text of what was recognized while you presented or practiced, the slide decision made each moment, timing, and, for practice runs, the written feedback. | Your browser, as you speak or type |
| Technical data | IP address, browser type, requested pages and timestamps, in the logs our hosting and database providers keep. | Your device |
| Preferences | Small settings kept in your own browser. See our Cookie Notice. | Your device |
Speech, audio and the people in the room
Live speech is the part of Cue most people ask about, so here is exactly what happens.
- Your browser does the speech recognition, not Cue. Cue uses the speech recognition built into your browser. In Google Chrome, your microphone audio is sent to Google's servers to be turned into text. That happens between your browser and Google under Google's terms, and we have no contract with Google covering it. Cue tells you this on the screen before you start. Where Chrome supports it, you can turn on "Keep my voice on this computer" on that screen, and your audio then stays on your computer.
- Cue never receives audio. We do not record, upload or store sound. We only receive the text your browser produces.
- Matching stays on your computer. Comparing what you said to your slides runs entirely in your browser, using a small AI model your browser downloads from Hugging Face and then keeps.
- The text is saved. Transcript text and slide decisions are saved to your organization's account so you can review a talk. Practice runs are kept separately and their transcript is also sent to Anthropic to write your feedback.
- Your microphone may pick up other people. If someone in the room speaks near your microphone, their words can be recognized and saved too. You are responsible for telling the people in the room when the law where you present requires it. Some places require everyone's consent before a conversation is recorded or transcribed.
- Typing is always an option. You can rehearse by typing, in which case no audio is involved at all.
How we use it, and our legal bases
| Why | What we use | Legal basis (GDPR and UK GDPR) |
|---|---|---|
| Provide your account and the service: sign-in, building slides, running talks, showing history | Account, brand materials, talk materials, live session records | Performance of our contract with you or your organization |
| Keep Cue secure and working: preventing abuse, fixing faults, investigating incidents | Technical data, and account data where needed | Our legitimate interest in running a safe, reliable service |
| Answer you when you contact us | Your message and contact details | Our legitimate interest, or contract |
| Meet legal duties and defend legal claims | Whatever the duty or claim requires | Legal obligation; legitimate interest |
We do not use your content to train AI models, and our AI provider's terms prohibit it from doing so. We tune Cue's slide matching on our own test recordings. If we ever wanted to use a customer's session logs for that, we would ask first.
No automated decisions about people. Cue decides which slide to show. It makes no decisions about individuals that have legal or similarly significant effects.
Slides and scripts are AI-generated. Cue's AI models write them from your materials, and you review them before presenting. They can be wrong, so please check them.
Where your data goes
Cue stores its database and files in Singapore. Our AI provider processes data in the United States, our email provider in Japan, and our website is served from a global network. These countries may not have the same data protection laws as yours. Where GDPR or UK GDPR applies, these transfers rely on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses and the UK Addendum, through our providers' data processing terms. You can ask us for a copy.
How long we keep it
| Data | How long |
|---|---|
| Account details | While your account exists. Deleted on request, except what we must keep by law. |
| Talks, slides, scripts, session transcripts and decision logs | Until you delete the talk, which deletes all of these with it. Cue does not delete them automatically. |
| Practice runs | Until you delete the run or the talk. |
| Past decks, logos and library images | Until you delete them, or your organization is deleted. |
| Data sent to Anthropic | Anthropic's published policy is deletion within 30 days, or up to 2 years if its safety systems flag content as violating its usage policy. |
| Provider logs and backups | These age out on each provider's own schedule after you delete something. |
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- access your personal data, and receive a copy in a portable format
- correct data that is wrong
- delete your data
- restrict or object to how we use it
- withdraw consent, where we rely on it
- complain to your data protection authority
To use these rights, contact us. We will answer within the time the law sets, usually 30 days under GDPR and UK GDPR and 45 days under California law, and may need to confirm your identity first. Deleting an organization or an account is not yet self-service, so ask us and we will do it. If your request concerns content your organization controls, we will pass it to them or help them answer.
California. We collect the categories listed above for the purposes listed above, and we do not sell personal information, or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not use sensitive personal information beyond providing the service. You will not be treated differently for exercising your rights.
Security
We protect data with encryption, strict per-organization access rules and limited access by our own staff. Our Security page gives the details, including what we do not yet have. No system is perfectly secure, and if a breach affects your data we will tell you as the law requires.
Children
Cue is for business use by adults. It is not directed at anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
When we change this policy we update the date at the top of this page, and we will tell account holders about material changes before they take effect.
